How to Get Your Holiday Travel On

Want to get away? We know everybody does. It’s just a question of when.

If you’re getting ready to travel this holiday season, here are a few last minute holiday travel tips.

Where to Go
Hilary Solan, a deal expert at Travelzoo recommends going the week before Christmas, instead of the week after.Deals are all over the place — especially on vacation packages, cruises and hotels — and you can enjoy the holiday spirit somewhere new,” she says.

Travel at off-peak times and consider purchasing an airport lounge pass
Many experts suggest traveling early or late to avoid the crowds. Keep in mind, morning flights are more likely to be on time, says Conde Nast Traveler’s Joe Brancatelli.

He also recommends considering buying day passes for airport lounges if you’re not a frequent flyer member, where you’ll have easy access to a cell phone charger, food and nice seats.

What to Pack
We love this vacation packing checklist from Real Simple magazine.

Above all, pack light. (That’s why we love our SHOLDIT scarf that’s a purse to help lighten the load.)

Use Travel Apps
The Travel Channel recommends using apps such as Flight Status for real-time updates on delays and baggage numbers. GateGuru will estimate security wait times. To find the cheapest gas and cleanest bathrooms try GasBuddy or SitOrSquat. It’s also good to have the Lyft and Uber apps for getting an easy pick-up from just about anywhere.

Preplan Your Transit to and from the Airport
Don’t assume that Uber or Lyft can pick you up at the airport. Some places such as Los Angeles still ban pickups at the airport which means you could be paying a hefty taxi fee unless you preplan your escape route. Check out public transit and see if a limo service might be cheaper than a taxi.
